Joy Rekindled: Border Regiment Veterans Gather Again in Pengkalan Hulu
A grand reunion for Border Regiment Third Battalion saw some 500 veterans and their family members gathered in Pengkalan Hulu town in Hulu Perak.
At Dewan Sri Kroh, members of the Border Regiment Battalion Infantry 303/3 reunited, reigniting old camaraderie, with many having last met over two decades ago.
Reunion coordinating officer Maj (Rtd) S. Kuberakusalan said attendees included those from Sabah and Sarawak.
We have come together to keep building our bond.
Although not everybody made it, I think deep down they all wished to join us.
Sadly, a few were unable to make it because of their new career paths post-retirement from the battalion.
"There are also individuals who cannot participate because of their health, financial constraints, and distance, since they reside in Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan," Kuberakusalan mentioned in his address during the gathering.
He mentioned that this was the fourth such meeting, with the initial one taking place in 2017.
Owing to the positive feedback and high public interest, another event took place in 2018.
“He mentioned that following the COVID-19 pandemic and relaxation of lockdown restrictions, they organized their third gathering in 2022.” He also expressed gratitude to all participants, as well as the battalion veterans and friends who contributed to making the occasion successful.
The guest of honor at the reunion was retired Major-General (Rtd) Datuk Abdullah Babu, who previously commanded the Third Battalion.
At the event, gift baskets and assistance were provided to disabled members, followed by a brief prayer session for those who had passed away.
Guests were treated to a sumptuous lunch while being entertained by Tiga Nol Tiga Band consisting of current and former personnel. — By IVAN LOH
