Jeremy Clarkson Decries Vanishing Village Charm in Malaysia Over Lack of Public Services
Jeremy Clarkson has stated that village communities in the countryside are ‘losing their essence’ as they lamented the disappearance of local facilities such as schools, police stations, and stores in several of the UK’s most remote regions.
Discussing the recently launched fourth season Clarkson's Farm , Clarkson — who had been dismissed by the BBC before this — BBC following a punch from a producer -- complained about loneliness in rural areas while talking about the regular closures of neighborhood pubs.
In the newest season, Clarkson explores different abandoned pubs as he looks into buying one near his farm. His intention is to restore these venues for the benefit of the local community and also use them to sell products from his Diddly Squat farm store.
As he enjoyed a beverage at his neighbourhood pub, the ex- Top Gear The presenter informs the audience: "Isolation is a significant concern in countryside regions, and one reason behind this is villages losing their essence."
'There isn't a village doctor for you now. He's stationed at a healthcare center 30 miles distant, and securing an appointment is impossible.'
'You won’t find a local policeman patrolling the streets. You also won’t see a parish priest or a community store, not even a rural school.'
If we reach a situation where there isn’t a village pub left, what defines a village anymore? Just a cluster of homes. The pubs serve as the heart, and this role must remain unchanged.
Clarkson is said to have paid less than £1 million to purchase the pub he eventually opened as The Farmer's Dog last year.
According to recent figures, six pubs closed every week in 2024, leading to around 4,500 job losses.
The tavern in Asthall, close to Burford in Oxfordshire, was formerly called The Windmill.
The new series of Clarkson's Farm features new farmhand Harriet Cowan, 24, taking over from popular sidekick Kaleb Cooper who is taking a break from the show.
The latest addition to the farming team has been praised as 'outstanding' by their fellow workers and appears to have maintained smooth operations during Cooper’s absence. Cooper, having been an integral part of the series since it started in 2021, was briefly away for a tour.
In the fresh eight-episode run of Clarkson's Farm, Jeremy along with his crew will face off against Mother Nature as she turns this into one of the most challenging periods for UK farmers yet.
The series will come back to the streaming service on May 23, with two extra episodes dropping on May 30, and then the last pair of episodes scheduled for release on June 6.
Previously, Clarkson revealed that a fifth season of "Clarkson's Farm" had been greenlit, even before the announcement of the fourth season, way back in November.
In an uploaded video snippet, a massive fireworks display of the numeral five illuminated the heavens as he shared with his audience: "Throughout the years, luminous displays in the sky have been employed for numerous significant proclamations."
For instance, the celebration of Baby Jesus' birth, but today they're being utilized to announce something even greater than that.
'The fifth season of Clarkson’s Farm is on its way,' concluded the television host, gesturing toward the golden numeral five.
He wrote on the post: "It's the 5th of November... This just seemed perfect; Clarkson's Farm Season 5 has started production."
