Dr Wee: Crucial Forums Shape People-Centric Policies

KUALA LUMPUR: According to Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, forums are crucial for keeping public opinions central to policy formulation.

The MCA chief referred to the ASEANPEOPLES@ASEAN2025 CSO Forum, highlighting its importance as a crucial effort that gathers various perspectives to create a more inclusive and citizen-focused Asean.

On behalf of MCA, we are delighted to support the event by offering Wisma MCA as the venue for this significant gathering.

I extend my heartfelt thanks to Jerald Joseph, the convener of the forum, for his guidance and dedication in fostering this regional discussion.

"Their efforts highlight the importance of cultivating a unified ASEAN that emphasizes human rights, fair progress, and collaborative regional initiatives," he stated in a Facebook post yesterday.

The Ambassador of the European Union to Malaysia, Rafael Daerr, along with the Chairperson of the Asean Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, Tan Sri Johari Abdul, and the Chairman of Suhakam, Datuk Seri Mohd HishamudinMdYunus, attended the forum.

Dr Wee also interacted with participants from other countries in the Asean bloc.

"It’s not merely an assembly of intellects; it also highlights the increasing influence of civil society in fostering a more citizen-focused ASEAN, where cooperation and common principles lead to a more robust regional community," he stated.

He also had a pleasant surprise when meeting Esther Teo, who is actively involved with Family Frontiers Malaysia.

She is also the parent of Mia Teo Herrizon, for whom I helped secure citizenship.

Dr. Wee mentioned, "The family is currently residing in Cyberjaya."

As per Esther, Mia, who was once extremely introverted, is now growing increasingly self-assured.

"The 10-year-old currently takes pleasure in playing badminton, beating the 24 festival drums, and sharing stories," he mentioned additionally.
