Asean Community 2045: Resilient, Innovative, and People-Centered, Says Tok Mat
KUALA LUMPUR: Embracing the Asean Community Vision 2045 marks the beginning of a collaborative effort towards our future goals, underscoring a unified pledge to ensure an inclusive, safe, tranquil, robust, and citizen-focused Asean region, according to Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
The Foreign Minister stated that this showcased a significant aspiration: to transform ASEAN into a resilient, innovative, and citizen-centric community. He emphasized that this initiative was far from just being a symbolic gesture.
The 46th ASEAN Summit enables us to place these principles at the core of ASEAN's path forward, as we aspire toward achieving the ASEAN Community Vision for 2045," he stated during his introductory address at the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting held here on Sunday (May 25).
Mohamad mentioned that the achievement of this vision started with establishing the foundation.
The groundwork we lay down today will decide if that dream turns into truth or stays just a hope.
“We should confront the future not as separate countries following different routes, but as a single community grounded in mutual respect and common objectives,” he stated.
Earlier this year, during the Dewan Rakyat session, Mohamad stated that Asean plans to introduce the Asean Community Vision 2045 along with its four Strategic Plans at the 46th Asean Summit. These documents will set out the region’s strategic path over the coming two decades.
The 46th ASEAN Summit along with related summits will be held in Malaysia from May 26 to 27.
Under Malaysia's ASEAN chairmanship for this year, Wisma Putra is spearheading the organisation of these summits with the theme 'Inclusivity and Sustainability.'
Two other high-level meetings – the 2nd Asean-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit and the Asean-GCC-China Economic Summit – will also be held.
